Metallomics Facility

A trace-metal cleanroom (class 100 - class 10,000) was built in UP Diliman while a semi-trace metal clean facility was also established in Bolinao Marine Laboratory, the marine research station of UPMSI in Pangasinan.

Establishment of the Metallomics and Inorganic Biogeochemistry Facility for Research and Development

Funded by: Department of Science and Technology (PCAARRD-IDD)

Class 100 - 10,000 Cleanroom located at Level 1 of the UPMSI Edgardo D. Gomez Hall.

Specific objective 1: Set up of laboratory equipment for trace metal-defined cell cultures and manipulation of algal cultures under metal-controlled conditions

Specific objective 2: Acquire field equipment for aerosol collection suitable for metal analysis

Specific objective 3: Obtain instruments to develop macronutrient analysis protocols

Specific objective 4: obtaining laboratory facilities that meet Cleanroom standards suitable for metallomics studies and research in inorganic biogeochemistry

Objectives of the Project:

Marine Research Station

Algal culture facility

The semi-trace metal controlled algal culture facility was established at the BML to maintain microalgal strains including HAB-forming species, symbiodiniaceae strains from the lab of Dr. Todd C. LaJeunesse, and several freshwater cyanobacterial strains.

Pyrodinium bahamanse

Alexandrium minutum

Major instruments housed in our facility at the BML

The IBR Lab is currently based in two locations: the UP Marine Science Institute in UP Diliman (left), and the Bolinao Marine Laboratory, Bolinao, Pangasinan (right).
